In a strong denunciation of recent hostilities, Italy has criticized Russia following a drone attack that targeted a residential building in Romania, near its border with Ukraine. This assault injured two civilians and has intensified worries about regional security dynamics.

Italy’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, labeled the incident a profoundly serious transgression, emphasizing its occurrence in Romania—a country that holds membership in both the European Union and NATO. Meloni highlighted that the attack underscores the persistent threat to civilian safety and the broader implications for European security. Expressing compassion, she extended solidarity to the Romanian government and those affected by the attack.

Antonio Tajani, the Italian Foreign Minister, urged Russia to commit earnestly to establishing a just and sustainable peace, reiterating Italy’s support for Romania during this crisis. Defense Minister Guido Crosetto also weighed in, characterizing the strike as a perilous and reckless escalation, stressing that the security of any NATO and EU member resonates as a collective issue for all allies.

The drone strike unfolded in the Romanian city of Galați, situated close to the Ukrainian border. Romanian authorities confirmed that the attack resulted in injuries to two individuals when the drone impacted a residential structure.

This incident has heightened apprehension among European leaders regarding the potential for the conflict to extend beyond Ukraine’s borders, threatening neighboring nations. In response to ongoing tensions, NATO allies have consistently reiterated their dedication to collective defense and ensuring regional stability.
