In an effort to bolster Mongolia’s cultural heritage conservation efforts, South Korea is collaborating with the nation through a higher education program designed to train future experts in the field. Officials from both countries recently assessed developments at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, where new facilities for conservation and digital documentation have been established as part of this initiative.
Since 2020, Kongju National University has spearheaded this partnership, which has led to the creation of Mongolia’s inaugural Department of Tangible Cultural Heritage Conservation Technology. This program is comprehensive, encompassing curriculum development, the enhancement of laboratory facilities, faculty training, and the creation of educational resources in the Mongolian language.
One of the key elements of South Korea’s support is the focus on transitioning to locally led education. By equipping Mongolian faculty members with the necessary training, the initiative aims to create a self-sustaining program.
