South Korea has achieved its highest position in the FIFA women’s world rankings in more than three years, now standing at 17th place. This advancement comes on the heels of the national team’s impressive performance at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where they secured a bronze medal. The team moved up two places from their prior ranking, marking their return to 17th since June 2023.
In the context of Asian teams, South Korea currently ranks fourth. They trail behind Japan, which holds the fifth spot, North Korea in 12th, and Australia at 15th. Notably, China has dropped to 18th in the rankings. The South Korean team’s ascent in the rankings was bolstered by their 1-0 victory over China in the third-place match at the Asian Games, a significant win as it was their first triumph over China in 11 years. Prior to this, South Korea faced a 2-0 defeat against Japan in the semifinals.
The bronze medal win marked a notable achievement for South Korea, as it was their first at the Asian Games in eight years. The team’s upward trajectory is indicative of their growing prowess on the international stage, particularly within the Asian region.
Globally, Spain continues to lead the FIFA women’s world rankings, followed by the United States, Germany, England, and Japan. The next update to the rankings, which will be the final one for the year, is scheduled for publication by FIFA on December 7.
