The 22-year-old showcased her stellar form by clocking a time of 1:55.88, securing the top prize of $150,000. This victory saw her outpace Britain’s Olympic champion, Keely Hodgkinson, who finished in a close second with a time of 1:56.26. Femke Broeders-Bol rounded out the top three in the event. Werro’s decisive lead from the start and her strategic acceleration in the final 300 meters underscored a season where she triumphed in 14 of her 15 outdoor competitions, cementing her status as a preeminent force in the 800m discipline.
For Hodgkinson, the race was a testament to her resilience. Despite a challenging season riddled with injuries, including a notable hamstring issue, she expressed satisfaction with her performance. Her recovery from this injury had limited her speed training, which she acknowledged as a factor in her ability to contest Werro’s pace. Nevertheless, her second-place finish marked a commendable return to form, highlighting her determination and competitive spirit.
Elsewhere in the championships, the women’s 1500m saw an intense contest as Georgia Hunter Bell claimed second place, following closely behind Poland’s Klaudia Kazimierska. Kazimierska’s winning time was 3:57.55, just 0.15 seconds ahead of Hunter Bell. This runner-up finish earned Hunter Bell a substantial prize of $75,000, adding to a season decorated with significant championship successes.
The women’s 100m sprint also delivered electrifying performances. Melissa Jefferson-Wooden emerged victorious with a remarkable time of 10.62 seconds, marking the fastest time in the world for the year. This achievement underscored her status as the reigning world champion. Olympic champion Julien Alfred secured second place with a time of 10.74 seconds, while Sha’Carri Richardson completed the podium with a time of 10.76 seconds.
